BenQ recently revealed that its S6 MID (mobile internet device) will now run on Windows XP operating system rather than the Midinux OS which was BenQ's custom Linux interface. The S6 has the same 4.8-inch 800x400 touchscreen which will now be powered by an improved 800MHz Intel Atom Z500 processor. The hard disk has also been upgraded from 4GB to 8GB solid state drive. The amount of RAM however remains the same i.e. 512MB. For connectivity there is the usual WiFi 802.11b/g, HSPA 3G, and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. There is also a microSD slot for expansion.

This device will be available in Taiwan through the carrier FarEasTone. The 3G-enabled S6 can be bought for $424 outright or users can get it free with a $57 per month three-year data contract.
