HP Mini 311 can be overclocked to 2GHz

HP Mini 311's 1.66GHz N280 processor is squeezed to the limit

It is one of the cheapest netbooks running on Nvidia Ion platform. The HP Mini 311 is powered by a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 processor, an NVIDIA ION LE graphics with up to 319MB graphics memory, sports an 11.6-inch  1366x768 pixel HD LED BirghtView Widescreen display, 1GB DDR3 RAM, 160GB 5400RPM SATA HDD, WiFi 802.11b/g,  Ethernet, VGA port, HDMI, combo mic/headhone jack, 5-in-1 card reader, 6 cell Li-Ion battery, Webcam with integrated digital microphone and pre-loaded with Windows XP Home Edition SP3.

Myhpmini.com reports of a first-time instance of overclocking of an Atom that is coupled in ION. Forum member burn_error did a few file tweaking to make the Asrock OC Tuner work with HP Mini’s 311’s NVIDIA platform. The result: the original 1.6GHz processor was shelling out 1.85GHz of clocking speed stably. Once the procedure was out, the maximum speed members have achieved is 2.1GHz which is incredible, with a bit of risk of course. It has increased the gaming performance significantly.

The basic procedure is to download and install OSTuner software, then editing the ASROC.ini file and running it. One another way is to download the NVIDIA System Tools from the official site and change the clocks in settings.
