A look at the Point of View Mobii Ion netbook
The battery life isn't that good and the netbook also gets heated
Point of View, POV is a computer hardware company which was established in the year 2000. POV is based in the Netherlands and serves more than 30 European countries.
Point of View had announced its 10.2-inch Mobii ION netbook around three months ago but was quite ever since. So here is one of the first thorough reviews about the netbook.
The Mobii ION is powered by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom 230 processor and is paired with Nvidia’s ION MCP7A chipset with Nvidia ION LE graphics that enables 1080p HD video. The HDMI port helps in outputting the content at this resolution to an external HD source like an HDTV.
Other features include 160GB HDD, 1GB RAM, Gigabit LAN, 802.11b/g WiFi, 1.3MP webcam, two USB ports, Realtek’s HD audio, integrated two 1.5W speakers, and XP Home operating system. It uses a 10.2-inch (1024 x 600) matte display which has high brightness and the colors are quite decent too.
With 255x185x33mm dimensions, the Mobii ION mini weighs around 1.4kg. The Point of View Mobii ION mini ships with either a 3-cell 2200mAh or the 6-cell 4400mAh battery. The 6-cell 4400mAh battery is capable of keeping POV’s Mobii ION mini running for around 3 hours and 27 minutes with Wi-Fi on and screen brightness set to 70 percent. At 100 percent brightness the Mobii ION lasts for around 2 hours and 20 minutes. The Mobii ION is currently on sale in Europe for €339.
Some negative points
The down side of the 6-cell battery is that you get a hump on the back of the netbook. The netbook does get rather warm. According to GPU-Z the ION GPU can heat up to 68 degrees Celsius under full load and hovers around 65 when in idle. Battery life isn’t that good to write about. Just a modest 2 hours is what it can provide to say the least. The position of the power button is a bit odd, and prone to accidental pressing.
