Security Problems with Intel WLAN
Intel prepared updates for the download, which shall fix severe security problems. These troubles affect mainly notebook-owners.
It concerns the Intel WLAN-moduls PRO/Wireless 2100, 2200BG, 2915ABG and 3945ABG, which are used mainly in Centrino-laptops. Intel offers updated drivers for the affected network adapters. These can be downloaded on the Intel site.
The leaks allow the transmission of any code via wireless network connection, which allows access on Kernel-level on the laptop. So viruses and worms can start causing troubles. Further access to installed applications or confidential data is possible and at last full access to the operating system.
The Intel updates are generic drivers and probably not exactly adapted to the specific WLAN-adapters. Perhaps soon there will be apt drivers on the sites of the notebook manufactureres.
