Acer refreshes its Aspire One line by adding the AO751h and AOD250 netbooks

Acer America, recently launched two new netbook models under the Aspire One brand name - the industry's first 11.6-inch mini notebook - the Acer Aspire One AO751h and the 10.1-inch Acer Aspire One AOD250. According to Sumit Agnihotry, vice president of product management for Acer America, the larger display and keyboard will be a game-changer for mobile consumers. He said, “These two new Acer Aspire One offerings will satisfy the needs of today's extremely diverse mobile users – from professionals who need a streamlined, highly mobile form factor to students who want a productivity-enhancing large keyboard and display. In all cases, Aspire One customers get a reliable, easy-to-use, stylish device that will let them remain connected.”

Both these models are thinner than the previous versions of Acer Aspire One netbooks and weigh less than 3 pounds. They have a new chassis design and are available in four colors Diamond Black, Ruby Red, Sapphire Blue, and Seashell White along with a metallic hinge with a colored accent. The AO751h will retail at $379 (with 6-cell battery) while the AOD250 will be cheaper and will retail at $298. The specifications of both the models are given below.

Acer Aspire One AO751h

This netbook has an 11.6-inch WXGA (16:9 ratio) high definition LED back-lit TFT LCD display with a resolution of 1364x768. The screen is large enough to easily view multiple windows and it also reduces the need to scroll while viewing Internet sites. Moreover, it also offers a full-size keyboard with soft-touch palm rest for ease of typing. Acer also included a multigesture touchpad on the AO751h that allows users to pinch, flick and swirl their fingers across the touchpad for more natural photo and video viewing.

Acer has used the 1.22GHz Intel Atom Z520 processor along with 1GB DDR2 533MHz SDRAM single channel memory. The graphics are provided by the built-in GMA950. For storage there is a 160GB SATA hard disk @ 5400rpm. Other features included on the AO751h are:

·         Multi-in-1 Digital Media Card Reader and Dedicated SD Card

·         802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and Bluetooth (optional)

·         VGA port

·         Acer Crystal Eye Web Camera

·         Two built-in Stereo Speakers

·         Built-in microphone

·         Three USB 2.0 Ports

·         Windows XP Home SP3 operating system

The dimensions of this netbook are 11.18-inch (W) x 7.79-inch (D) x 1-inch (H) and it weighs 2.7 pounds which means it is quite sleek and light. Acer claims that the 6-cell battery can provide up to eight hours of battery life, while the 3-cell battery can provide four hours. It is also said that select new models will feature up to 2GB of DDR2 memory and up to a 250GB internal hard drive with Windows Vista OS.

This netbook is quite compact and light-weight which makes it suitable for users who are continuously on the move. The AOD250 has a 10.1-inch WSVGA (16:9 ratio) LED back-lit TFT LCD display with a resolution of 1024x600. It is powered by the standard 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor and uses the Intel 945GSE Express chipset with onboard graphics provided by the GMA950. For storage it has a 160GB SATA hard disk @ 5400rpm. It has 1GB of DDR2 533MHz SDRAM (single channel). The other specs on this machine are similar to the AO751h like:

·         802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and Bluetooth (optional)

·         VGA port

·         Acer Crystal Eye Web Camera

·         Two built-in Stereo Speakers

The dimensions of this model are 10.17-inch (W) x 7.24-inch (D) x 1-inch (H) with a weight of 2.5 pounds.

Both the models i.e. the AO751h and AOD250 come with a one year standard warranty and are available in the US now.
