The NX90 aims at being a multimedia desktop replacement
Asus can be given credit for introducing many firsts to the computer world, including probably the most popular and accessible of them all – the netbooks. The good thing is, unlike some of the more popular companies, this Taiwanese computer giant has been actively involved in expanding all levels of the product line. The latest show-off during the on-going CeBit 2010 at Germany, the NX90, is another innovation in the premium line of desktop replacements.
The NX90 likes to be called a multimedia desktop replacement – specifically. It is designed by David lewis and features a beautiful 18.4-inch FHD LED FullHD display panel with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The NX90 boasts of Bang & Olufsen audio technology developed in Denmark. And you have to hear it to believe it – it is that good! Superior sound quality marries a perfect balance of clear notes with bass even at a very high note - You can tell it from even a side glance at the exquisite integrated sound bar that is multiple times bigger than our average sized laptop speakers. There’s also a provision of a DJ-like set-up, where the dual touchpad idea could come handy. Both the touchpads can be activated by accessing the custom Rotation Desktop Control app present on-board.
We found the body in a sleek Aluminum metal look, with no holes in the floor slab and columns. The massive chrome hand rest is made of solid aluminum. The monitor borders extend on both right and left side to give it a unique look. We felt the keyboard could have been further extended down as there was a little too much room left below the keyboard. The keys themselves are not cramped, but one can never have enough of a good-laid out keyboard. Although the solid Aluminum finish looks very élite – it will sure attract a lot of fingerprints and grease. Prepare to carry a wiping cloth all the time, although rumors arise about a brushed-metal version as well! One unique feature we found is the presence of two touchpad, which totally lost me.
Inside, this guy is as powerful as it gets – powered by the latest Intel Core i7 8200QM (although you can opt for an i5 also), accompanied by an Nvidia Geforce GT 335M. The chipset in play will be an Intel HM55. It also features a massive up to 1.280 TB HDD stuck in gross capacity (2 x 640 GB). You also won’t get enough of the immense 12GB (1066MHz) DDR3 RAM. There is USB 3.0 interface, Blu ray reader etc. This heavy 4.8kg machine has a dimension of 526 x 280 x 43.8 mm, so be prepared for this too – you don’t want to end up with a numb shoulder after carrying it around for a few hrs, do you?
The NX90 should bear a hefty price-tag of about 2000 Euros ($2700).
