J&W Minix 811 netbook showcased at Computex
It is super slim and has a built-in 3G module
J&W is one of China’s biggest players in the motherboard and GPU market. It recently showcased the Minix 811 netbook which was supposedly one of the thinnest netbooks at Computex. It is just 22.5mm thick and weighs only 1.2Kgs, all thanks to the light weight aluminum alloy chassis. The Minix 811 has a 10.2-inch (1024 x 600 resolution) display which is powered by a 1.6GHz Intel N270 Atom processor and supports up to 2GB of RAM. It comes with three USB ports, a card reader, Ethernet port, VGA port, and also has a built-in 3G modem. There is a SIM card slot at the back of the netbook and the user has to remove the battery to access it.
The netbook is quite slim as compared to the Samsung NC10. Despite of its small form factor the Minix 811 has a good build quality. The keyboard has a decent size and the keys are pretty responsive. The WiFi and Power keys are located near the hinges of the netbook and look pretty nice. The trackpad has two keys on either side of it which might look inconvenient to some, but, one gets used to it after a couple of hours of usage. This netbook comes with a 3-cell Li-ion 2200mAh battery which can run it for about 2.5 hours. The 6-cell battery option is still in the pipeline. Users will also have a choice between Linux, Windows XP, and Windows 7 operating system. The exact pricing and availability of this model has not yet been disclosed.
