Micro-Star International (MSI), the Taiwanese manufacturer behind the popular Wind U100 netbook, has announced a new range of larger machines called the X-Slim series. The company showed off its first X-Slim device, the X320 netbook, at the CES, at Las Vegas, last Thursday.

Before it was rumored to be on Atom chip, but the latest speculations will make the power-hungry happier. The company should bring out a variant with a Pentium Dual Core chip also, which will be more expensive than the earlier of course.

The Atom-powered machine is a 1.3-kilogram (3 lb) ultra-thin device with a 13.4-inch screen that runs on a 1.33GHz Intel Z530 Atom microprocessor. Other specifications include:

·         160GB Hard drive at 5,400 RPM

·         13.4” LCD

·         16:9 ratio - 1366x768 resolution

·         Maximum thickness: 1.98 cm

·         Minimum thickness: 6 mm

·         Bluetooth, WiFi

·         3 USB ports, Ethernet

·         VGA out

·         Battery life up to 10 hours

The Pentium powered machine should be more or less of the same specifications, barring the processor and should cost over $1000, whereas the Atom one should come for about $800.
