Paying tribute to Remedy Entertainment, Alan Wake and Max Payne headline the latest Humble Bundle. Both titles have gameplay that appeals to fans of horror games and third-person shooters. The package valued at $238 also offers highly rated Epic and Steam games, like Quantum Break and Control.

Humble Bundle is celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Remedy Entertainment with a package of nine Epic Store and Steam games. Highlights in the deal are multiple Alan Wake and Max Payne titles. Many Remedy projects boast stylized shooter gameplay in haunted worlds filled with dread. For a minimum donation of $27, buyers receive a configuration that normally sells for as much as $238.

The full Alan Wake experience

Despite the popularity of Max Payne, Alan Wake is Remedy Entertainment’s most successful franchise. Alan Wake Remastered updates the visuals of the original 2010 version. In the psychological horror game, players try to locate the writer’s missing wife in the eerie town of Bright Falls. Enemies hide in the darkness, forcing gamers to first expose them with flashlights.

Alan Wake games have the structure of a TV show that draws inspiration from famous horror mini-series. Alan Wake 2 adds survival horror elements like an inventory system. Gamers can also complete another single-player storyline with FBI agent Saga Anderson. Its complexity leads to more hours of playtime, which was often a criticism of its predecessor. The Epic Games-exclusive Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition bundles expansions, cosmetics, and other bonus items.

How Max Payne changed third-person shooters

The Remedy Entertainment Humble Bundle of Steam games also includes Max Payne. This critically acclaimed series brought the Finnish developer to prominence. From a third-person vantage point, gamers control the former detective as he seeks the perpetrators of his family’s slaughter. Contrary to the frantic pace of some action games, Max Payne slows down sequences with bullet time. In addition to making enemies easier to target, players can appreciate the gritty depiction of a NYC in decline.

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne didn’t set the same sales records as the first title. Nevertheless, it expands on the bullet time mechanic and boasts improved visuals. Mona Sax joins Max in the sequel, and there are additional types of weapons to rely on.

Other Remedy Entertainment favorites

In Quantum Break, players have more ways to manipulate time as they navigate a world decaying around them. Although criticized for technical hiccups on PCs, the Steam game blends a TV format with third-person shooter gameplay. Gamers can experience different narratives depending on their actions, bolstering replay value.

The paranormal-themed Control places gamers in a mysterious skyscraper that changes form around them. Gamers have a weapon at their disposal, but mind control is essential in defeating the interdimensional foes known as the Hiss. This Remedy title is even less linear, as new psychic abilities allow players to explore more areas of the building.

Death Rally is an alternative to the horror and shooter titles in this Humble Bundle deal, but no less menacing. Originating in the 1990s, racers aim for first place while attacking opponents on tracks. Gameplay is surprisingly deep, as drivers upgrade weapons and vehicles as they progress through careers.
