Remedy Entertainment and Rockstar confirm that a Max Payne and Max Payne 2 remake is in the works

The legendary Max Payne franchise, for the most part, has been dead since its third iteration, Max Payne 3, was launched in 2012. While it did carry forward the series' legacy well, the game didn't see much commercial success due to largely monotonous gameplay and the ageing self-title protagonist.

It is set to receive a new lease of life, but not with Max Payne 4. Rockstar has confirmed that it will publish a Max Payne and Max Payne 2 remake developed by none other than their original creators, Remedy Games, who were the ones to approach Rockstar for the Remake.

Both games will be sold as a bundle and will be available to play on PC, Xbox Series S|X and PlayStation 5 soon. Rockstar hasn't mentioned a timeline for the game's launch but has stated that it is "in development", indicating that it could be demoed at an upcoming event.

Unfortunately, the game is unlikely to be launched on previous-generation consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One, presumably due to its demanding Northlight Engine. Development shouldn't take long, as Remedy has easy access to Max Payne and Max Payne 2's source material.
