Control 2: Sequel for critically-acclaimed 2019 title confirmed to be in development
Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that 2019's critically-acclaimed title Control is all set to get a sequel. 505 games will develop Control 2 on the company's proprietary Northlight engine. Remedy has supposedly set aside US$50 million for the endeavour. Control was lauded for its graphics, especially its raytracing chops. One can expect to see a lot more of it in the sequel, which will be available on PC, Xbox Series S|X and PlayStation 5.
The official blog post announcing Control 2 also shared some concept art. It shows a street with the waypoint markings from the previous game, a bunch of levitating bodies tethered to the sidewalk by a string and standard FBC (Federal Bureau of Control) equipment casually lying around, indicating that Control 2 could be outdoors. Last year, the company's CEO hinted that some multiplayer elements could be baked into the game, and it'll be interesting to see how Remedy goes about it.
Plot-wise, Control 2 could have the protagonist, who will very likely be Jesse Faden (Courtney Hope), fulfil her responsibilities as the Director of the FTC. One can expect to see more of Ahti (the mysterious janitor) and other survivors from the first game. There could be multiple references to older titles developed by the studio, such as Alan Wake, Quantum Break and even Max Payne. Unfortunately, there is no word about when Control 2 will see the light of day, but it isn't happening anytime soon because it is still in early development.
