Gamers were pleasantly surprised after learning the Hollow Knight: Silksong price. Unfortunately, the title is not such a bargain for PlayStation fans in Brazil. A ResetEra forum member shared the cost of the PS5 game compared to other platforms. In Brazilian currency, Silksong costs R$115, while it’s only R$60 on Steam and the Nintendo eShop.
The Silksong PS5 price after converting to U.S. dollars is $21.11, which doesn’t seem as outrageous. Still, a Brazilian citizen earns an average of $615 per month, which makes gaming an expensive pastime. Many companies, like Steam, Microsoft, and Nintendo, employ regional pricing in certain countries to reflect economic conditions. In this case, the PC and Switch versions of the Team Cherry Metroidvania game are only $11.00.
Regional pricing can vary wildly, and the differences are less pronounced for some AAA games. Nevertheless, recent PS5 price increases on first-party games already angered Brazilian buyers. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach saw its price jump from R$349.90 to R$399.90, bringing it to the equivalent of $73.40.
Sony has faced global fury over PlayStation Store prices
The high pricing on the PlayStation Store is not unique to Brazil. Gamers in Turkey are asked to pay 3,449 Turkish liras or $83.61 for Ghost of Tsushima. Like in Brazil, this investment represents a significant portion of a gamer’s monthly salary.
With discrepancies between the PlayStation Store and other marketplaces, the company has dealt with multiple lawsuits. The latest case in the Netherlands alleges that Sony engages in monopolistic practices. A Dutch consumer advocacy group argues that consumers and developers only have one place to purchase or sell digital PS5 games. In March 2025, Sony settled a U.S. lawsuit that stemmed from its decision to block retailers from selling PS Store game codes.
It’s unlikely that the Hollow Knight: Silksong PS5 price will deter most Brazilian buyers. Although they have limited resources, devoted gamers in the country often prioritize the hobby. A recent survey suggested that a third of Brazilian gamers would consider a $100 GTA 6 price reasonable.
