Here goes Nothing: Carl Pei introduces his second start-up with a total absence of new products
Ex-OnePlus leader Carl Pei has launched his new brand, in line with earlier hype. As it turns out, this new company is called Nothing, and, well...does what it says on the tin thus far. It seems Pei and his new London-based team have no products to debut or even tease at this point, leaving their audience in the dark as to what they have actually come together to do at this point.
Then again, Pei's announcement makes it clear that Nothing has something to do with tech, indicating that the start-up will design products that negate "barriers" between human users and a "seamless" digital experience. This hints at something in the extended-reality (XR) field, even though Nothing was originally touted to be a new audio group of some kind.
As the last launch spearheaded by Pei was the slightly experimental AR event for the OnePlus Nord's global introduction, this avenue would make sense of a sort for his new venture. Despite the mystery implied in its arguably nebulous, yet buzzword-heavy, concept, Nothing's launch has been accompanied by endorsements from its investors, including Casey Neistat and Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin.
Nevertheless, it remains that there is not much to Nothing besides a new visual identity and this "innovation"-focused philosophy at present. On the other hand, it seems Pei might have a second announcement containing more details in February 2021.
