We recently reviewed the Oppo Find X8 Ultra, an imported flagship smartphone from China, equipped with a Hasselblad camera system. The device impressed us in nearly every aspect, even earning our Top Rated Award. The only drawbacks we found are the presence of PWM flicker, the lack of ultra-wideband support, and limitations commonly found on models intended for the Chinese market, such as the absence of eSIM functionality.
Although Oppo has fine-tuned some details of the cameras this year, the overall setup remained largely unchanged, featuring two periscope telephoto lenses, a one-inch main sensor, and an unfortunately rather small ultrawide camera. Several weeks ago, early rumours began emerging from China about the upcoming Oppo Find X9 Ultra and X9 Pro, suggesting Oppo was considering abandoning the dual periscope telephoto combo. Now, a recent Weibo post from renowned Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station has delivered slightly more insights into what this change might look like.
According to the leak, Oppo is exploring a camera system incorporating two 200 MP sensors. Specifically, the company appears to be testing a Snapdragon 8 Elite 2-based prototype that pairs a massive 200 MP main sensor with a large 200 MP sensor for a far-reaching telephoto camera. Additionally, the device is said to feature an ultrawide and a portrait camera, each equipped with a 50 MP sensor, resulting once again in a quad-cam setup. Some comments on the post speculate that this protype could be an early version of the Oppo Find X9 Ultra, but it remains to be seen whether the final product will match this description when it launches in 2026.
