It seems Nintendo's yet-unreleased Switch 2 console has been finding its way into the hands of some users. This time, a user claims to have gotten their hands on the Switch 2 and is answering questions on Reddit.

After years of rumors and leaks, the Nintendo Switch 2 is finally going to be officially released next week, on June 5th. However, some gamers have already gotten their hands on the console. One of these lucky gamers is now doing an “Ask Me Anything” on r/Switch, answering questions regarding the new console.

Before we discuss these questions, it is important to mention that we have no way of confirming if the user “Pg_atom” has actually gotten their hands on the console. But considering that we are only a week out from the Switch 2 launch and retailers should already have stock, it is not surprising that some users already have the Switch 2 with them.

Pg_atom claims that their pre-release Switch 2 is locked and can’t play any games. The user tried playing Mario Odyssey, a Switch 1 title, but it didn’t work. So, it seems Nintendo has locked the Switch 2 to keep the console and its secrets safe until sales officially commence.

However, what Nintendo reportedly hasn’t locked is access to the initial startup, the new UI, and the music.

Perhaps the most interesting information that has come out of this AMA is the Switch 2’s dual-charging. The Nintendo Switch 2 has two Type-C charging ports, but the console reportedly doesn’t support simultaneous charging. This is despite the console apparently registering connections from both ports.

If the fully unlocked Switch 2 doesn't support dual-charging, it'd be a bit of a miss. Nintendo could've taken advantage of the dual ports to deliver faster charging. That said, Windows handheld consoles like the Rog Ally X, which support simultaneous charging, also don't deliver faster charging when using both ports.

When it comes to the kickstand, the user explains that it is “very sturdy, OLED-like, but lighter”. The new Joy-Cons 2 also appear to have been improved with a “more clicky” connection sound and better build quality than the Joy-Cons on the original Switch. The user compares the new Joy-Cons to the non-detachable controls of the Switch Lite (Available on Amazon).

The Reddit post is still up on r/Switch. So, if you have a question about the hardware of the Switch 2, it might be worth asking a question.
