The DJI Osmo 360 has taken a step closer to release as a future GoPro Max and Insta360 X5 rival (curr. $549.99 on Amazon). Until recently, reliable leakers were unsure whether DJI would even release its first 360-degree action camera. However, a report from ITHome earlier this week pegged the camera's official launch for July.
Now, various sources have got their hands on fresh Osmo 360 images ahead of its rumoured summer release. Seemingly, the photos are of retail units rather than prototypes, although we cannot identify any visual differences between the two. A mounting system can also be seen in one photo with what appears to be pass-through USB Type-C charging when the Osmo 360 is on a tripod or a bike mount, for example.
For the time being, full specifications and launch pricing remain unknown for now. X account Güçlü Atamer has offered a few hints about what DJI has planned for the device. Supposedly, the Osmo 360 will share 'almost the same' technical specifications as the Insta360 X5. If that is the case, then DJI will kick off its 360-degree series with 8K/30 FPS video recording capabilities and a circa 1/1.28-inch camera sensor that shoots at up to 72 MP. Based on earlier rumours, the Osmo 360 will line up with a smaller battery than the Insta360 X5, though.
