UnifyDrive is now shipping the UT2 portable hard drive after a successful Kickstarter campaign. It is powered by an 8-core Rockchip RK3588C SoC with 8 GB RAM, 32 GB eMMC, and 6 TOPS NPU. The drive has an MSRP of $599 and is currently on sale for $569 at the product website.
The UnifyDrive UT2 can automatically back up photos and videos from digital camera cards (SD natively; TF, CFexpress, and microSD with adapters) using the built-in card reader. An internal battery that provides up to an hour of runtime allows the drive to be used to back up and share files with smartphones, tablets, and laptops on-the-go.
Owners can insert SSDs up to 8 TB into each of the two drive slots. The drive can store up to 8 TB of files across two 8 TB SSDs in RAID 1 mode, or up to 16 TB of files when not using RAID.
With each backup, the UT2 runs AI software to automatically index each file by text, face, and scene for rapid searches. The AI can also generate captions and convert speech to text for video files.
The built-in network attached storage (NAS) with router enables instant file sharing when the drive is connected to computers over 802.11 ax Wi-Fi 6 or 2.5 Gb Ethernet connections. The built-in HDMI and USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 with DP ports allow users to attach AR glasses to watch stored movies.
The UnifyDrive UT2 measures 170 x 85 x 21 mm (6.7 x 3.3 x 0.8 in.) and weighs 306 g (10.8 oz.).
