After just three years, Nothing has announced it is killing off one of the features that made its phones stand out. The light strip that graced the back of its phones, which is officially known as the Glyph Interface, may not make it to the Nothing Phone (3).

When Nothing launched its first smartphone, a unique feature it brought was a light strip on the back which it called the Glyph Interface. This light strip provided an interesting way for users to interact with their device such as when the phone rings or when there's a notification.

Over time, Nothing refined the Glyph Interface and added more features such as allowing the lights to work as a sort of progress bar for select apps such as the camera app and the Uber app. Now, it seems it is the end of the line for the Glyph Interface.

According to a post made on X, Nothing says it ''killed the Glyph Interface''. The post is accompanied by a 9-second video that shows the Glyph Interface from the Nothing Phone (1). However, towards the end of the video, the lights go off with a sound effect to match.

There are speculations that Nothing may be informing us that its next smartphone, which is believed to be the Nothing Phone (3), won't have the Glyph Interface. If that is the case, it shouldn't be much of a surprise for anyone who has been paying attention to Nothing's recent smartphones.

The Glyph Interface covered a large percentage of the back of the Nothing Phone (1) and Nothing Phone (2) but when the Nothing Phone (2a) launched, the Glyph Interface was restricted to just three LED strips at the upper part of the phone. Subsequent phones including this year's Nothing Phone (3a) (curr. available on Amazon for $380) and Phone (3a) Pro also have a similar design.

If you think about it, Nothing was slowly weaning fans off the Glyph Interface, and with its recent post, it seems to have finally made the decision to kill it. While the Glyph Interface may be going away, Nothing is still sticking to its unique transparent design based on a recent teaser for the Nothing Phone (3).
