The upcoming Apple iPhone 17 series is expected to bring a lot of changes compared to the iPhone 16 models. The biggest changes reported for the iPhone 17 series are said to be in the hardware department, with the inclusion of the iPhone 17 Air and a design overhaul for the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
According to MacRumors, the Apple iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are set to get anti-reflective screen protection, as the suppliers have reportedly managed to resolve the yield issues. This new anti-reflective screen cover is also allegedly more scratch-resistant than the Ceramic Shield protection of the iPhone 16 series.
Sadly, the anti-reflective displays seemingly won’t be available on the base iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Air. We don’t know the exact rationale behind this decision, but it could be something to do with the supply or the need to set the Pro models apart from the cheaper iPhone 17 models.
While eye-catching changes like a new hardware design are always welcome, it is the subtle improvements, like the introduction of an anti-reflective screen, that make the most difference in day-to-day use. We noted this in our review of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, as the phone’s Corning Gorilla Armor 2 makes a noticeable difference outdoors.
In fact, when you place the iPhone 16 Pro Max and the Galaxy S25 Ultra side by side, it shows the superiority of the Galaxy’s display in fighting glare (pictured below). So, it is excellent news that Apple is improving upon the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which has an otherwise great display, in this regard.
All in all, the iPhone 17 series, especially the iPhone 17 Air and the iPhone 17 Pro models, are shaping up to be quite exciting. With the Pixel 10 launch set for August and the iPhone 17 series bracing for a September debut, the smartphone market is in for an eventful few months.
