The Nintendo Switch 2 hype train shows no sign of slowing down as no fewer than three separate social media-related incidents have led to rumors that the Switch successor could be announced or even launched in 2023. The next-generation Nintendo console has no official name, with “Switch Pro” and “Switch 2” frequently appearing in reports.

There have been three interesting Nintendo Switch successor-related mentions lately that have led to some belief that Nintendo might even launch its next-generation console in 2023. A Twitter post by the well-known channel Centro LEAKS has shared some information taken from 4chan (pinch-of-salt time). The original poster claims to have worked with a “Pokémon outsourcing company” and that they are “working on a graphics enhancement patch for the new Nintendo Switch models that will be released alongside DLC2”. So, this could mean a Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 2 OLED are coming (“Switch models”) or this has just been poorly machine translated, as stated in the post, and “models” refers to something Pokémon rather than something Switch. But if it has been translated accurately, then the next-gen Switch console could be launched in late 2023.

However, at about the same time, Jeff Grubb has been talking up the “new Switch” on his YouTube channel (shared via ResetEra). Grubb has been wise by pointing out that any information he has to share is based on a “rumor of a rumor”, but he also commented that he had heard “later this year” in regard to Switch 2-related business. This could be more like an announcement for the next-generation Switch, possibly around October just like the original Switch console (October 2016). The original device’s specifications weren’t fully revealed until January 2017 and the Switch finally went on sale in March 2017. With other analysts predicting a 2024 launch for a Nintendo Switch 2, this rumored rumor would actually make sense in this announcement-delay-release situation.

Just in time to jump aboard the Switch 2/Switch successor/Big N’s completely out of left-field name hype train is a post on Reddit that reveals that an important leaker has been shut down by Nintendo’s “ninjas”. Apparently, this particular tipster actually worked on a production line for Nintendo so had some real insider knowledge. Unsurprisingly, there are some who have immediately linked this to an incoming announcement, or an unveiling, of a Switch 2, which is obviously something Nintendo would not want ruined by a crafty leaker. So, “Factory Uncle” has been silenced, thus reducing the chances of details or images of next-gen Switch parts or components appearing on a random forum over the coming months. Put these three incidents together and it almost seems like the rumor planets are aligning for the Switch 2 – but there were plenty of moments like this for the cancelled “Switch Pro”, too.
