New Nintendo Switch 2 release date rumor makes an appearance but comes via dubious source
An interesting but sketchy rumor about the Nintendo Switch 2 release date has been offered up by a YouTuber called Mike Odyssey. While not the most-popular Nintendo commenter on the platform, the YouTuber does have thousands of subscribers and is no less reliable than a typical 4chan-based “leak” (or even Twitter-based). It’s worth keeping this Switch 2 news in the “rumor” section though, as opined by fellow Nintendo YouTuber SwitchForce, who has gained over 400,000 subscribers with a much more grounded approach to rumors and whispers.
The video from Mike Odyssey discusses the Nintendo Switch 2, which of course is the media’s name for the likely next-generation Switch console, and the host does go to some lengths to explain that all the information included is a rumor. However, he states he has received emails from multiple sources that claim Nintendo’s Direct events in June and September will be all about the Switch 2. Apparently, there will be a grand presentation or announcement of the console in June and this will eventually be followed up by an even larger live event in September where fans will be able to get to grips with the Nintendo Switch 2 console itself.
Of course, it’s easy to poke holes in this rumor, and some have already done this while other leakers have seemingly agreed directly with the comments made in Mike Odyssey’s video. It might be just a couple of reasonably safe guesses, as Nintendo Direct events are expected to turn up in June and September, and there have been plenty of rumors already that the Switch 2 could be released in 2023. If the claims from these unnamed sources are false then it can be easily brushed off as Nintendo changing dates or a Switch 2 component held up in the supply chain, but if they end up being true then there is a lot to gain in terms of leaker status and increased viewership.
Even one of the most “reliable” supposed leaks so far about the next-generation Nintendo console has led to considerable argument, with some reckoning the Switch 2 will come in 2023 because of when DLC2 for the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet games is expected to arrive (“winter 2023”). But as has been pedantically pointed out elsewhere, winter 2023 could mean anytime up to mid-March 2024. With Nintendo cracking down hard on anyone who leaks its secrets or takes advantage of its IPs, there might be nothing concrete coming in the Switch 2 leak pipeline until the company itself decides the time is right to reveal its gaming hardware future.
