Xiaomi has unveiled MIUI 13 for global audiences, albeit without any notable changes from MIUI 12.5 and MIUI 12.5 Enhanced. MIUI 13 will arrive on 18 devices this quarter, but it will not introduce previously-announced features, such as MiSans font or Google's Material You design language.

Today, Xiaomi has unveiled not only the Redmi Note 11 series, but also MIUI 13. Like the Redmi Note 11 series, Xiaomi had already revealed MIUI 13 last year in China. However, MIUI contains different features in China than elsewhere, so it was unclear what Xiaomi would bring to the table with the global version of MIUI 13.

During today's launch event, Xiaomi confirmed that MIUI 13 elevates 'the core experience' by improving user experience and reducing power consumption. Fundamentally, MIUI 13 brings 'Atomized Memory, Focused Algorithms, Liquid Storage and Smart Balance' to devices, all innovations that Xiaomi introduced with MIUI 12.5.

For some reason, Xiaomi has decided against implementing some changes, such as MiSans font, new widgets or support for Google's Material You design language. Potentially, these features will arrive with Android 12; the Redmi Note 11 series has arrived with Android 11 instead. The global version of MIUI 13 also introduces Sidebar, which Xiaomi describes as providing 'Quick access to all your favourite apps'. Again, Sidebar was already available in MIUI 12.5.

Currently, the global version of MIUI 13 seems like a re-hash of MIUI 12.5 and MIUI 12.5 Enhanced. MIUI 13 will arrive on the following devices later this quarter. Please note that this is only the first wave of devices to receive MIUI 13 globally. Typically, Xiaomi rolls out MIUI OS updates in at least two or three waves.
