Xiaomi has launched the Mijia Capsule Coffee Machine S1 in China. The product is a competitor to the popular Nespresso capsule-based coffee machines like the Esseza Mini (curr. $123.41 at Amazon).
The Mijia Capsule Coffee Machine S1 is said to offer up to 20 bar pressure, a slight increase on the 19 bar of the Nespresso equivalent, for stable extraction. The Xiaomi machine also offers fast heating thanks to a 1,250W heat source, reaching temperature in 25 seconds. The product page suggests that an NTC thermistor ensures precise temperature controls for a consistent taste. There is support for two cup sizes, set to 40 ml and 110 ml by default, which can be adjusted based on your taste. Plus, the cup holder slides up and down to adapt to the size of your cup.
At the rear is a 650 ml integrated water tank, and on the top are two control buttons. Other features include automatic power off after 10 minutes and a removable magnetic capsule storage hanger. The Mijia coffee machine is not overly noisy, with a 55 dB(A) operating noise level and measures 33.2 x 9.0 x 21.2 cm. This product is marketed with Cafe Royal coffee pods, sold separately; these appear to be the same size as Nespresso pods, 37 x 29 mm.
The Xiaomi Mijia Capsule Coffee Machine S1 is now available in China for CNY 499 (~$69). It comes with ten coffee capsules, which are said to be imported from Switzerland. Whether or when it could launch in other markets like Europe remains to be seen.
