The Xiaomi Mi 6X was a welcome release in 2018, as it packaged the Snapdragon 660 processor into a slim form-factor with a 5.99-inch 2160 x 1080 screen. It also came with a 3010mAh battery and RAM SKUs with up to 6 GB and 64 GB of storage for US$285. However, Mi 6X users may have been disappointed that the phone has remained on the MIUI 9 OS, based on Android 8.1 (Oreo).
This deficiency is thrown into particularly sharp relief in the Mi 6X's case as it has an alternate version: the Mi A2. Like the Mi A1 before it, it is an Android One device, which means it is more likely to be supported with security and software updates compared to its 6X sibling. However, there may be some good news for those who opted for the latter phone.
ITHome has reported that Xiaomi may have begun working on a builld of MIUI 10 for the Mi 6X. These indications, which are apparently based on "internal user feedback", would mean that the device may be upgraded to Android 9 (Pie) shortly. On the other hand, ITHome also states that this new builld (MIUI 10 9.3.11) contains few system-level changes besides some alteration to the settings. In addition, as its development is still at an early stage, a Mi 6X may not function entirely as normal while running it.
