Xiaomi launches new quieter Mijia Smart Curtain 2
Xiaomi has launched the Mijia Smart Curtain 2 in China. The smart home product combines a motor and rail, allowing you to open your curtains remotely. Xiaomi lists five methods which you can use to adjust your curtains: voice commands, the Mijia app, a timer or schedule, using the accompanying remote, or gently pulling on the fabric.
The Mijia Smart Curtain 2 offers smart features, like automatically opening and closing at sunrise and sunset, and an obstacle detection tool. You can use the Mijia app to choose your desired open and close position and set the speed of the motor between 4 and 16 cm (~1.6 and 6.3 inches) per second, with a new stepless adjustment feature. With 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, the smart curtain device can also link to other Xiaomi smart home products; for example, you could set the curtains to close when you switch on the TV.
Compared to older models like the Mijia Smart Curtains Telescopic Track Version, the motor is quieter thanks to a new design with improved shock absorption, reducing noise from 30 to 26 dB. The motor plugs into the mains, and you can adjust the straight length of track between 0.5 and 3 m (~1.6 and 9.8 ft). You can now pre-order the Xiaomi Mijia Smart Curtain 2 in China for the discounted price of 849 yuan (~$117); the product has an RRP of 899 yuan (~$124). It is unlikely that this product will reach other regions like Europe in the near future. Instead, customers could consider the SwitchBot Curtain 3 (€89.99).
