Xiaomi intros updated PC game emulation feature with support for local play of Steam games

PC game emulation on Android has been progressing quite rapidly. While options like GameHub and Winlator are better known in the community, Xiaomi has its own solution. This Windows game emulation feature is available in Xiaomi's Game Center app, which has just been updated.

As Redmi's Product Manager, Sun Cun, describes, the main highlight of the update is the ability to play games from Steam. The latest version allows users to play three relatively popular titles natively on their Xiaomi phones. Sun Cun notes that there's proper support for Hollow Knight, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Stardew Valley.

It's unclear whether the Xiaomi Game Center app can natively run other games from Steam, but as the company previously showcased, its WinPlay Engine allows users to play any PC game locally. Other than that, the update unlocks the achievement system and ensures proper cloud save synchronization, allowing players to pick up the games from a different device without losing progress.

Sun Cun also highlights the support for proper controllers (GameSir X5s curr. $44.99 on Amazon), and the updated Xiaomi Games Center app has new on-screen controls. This virtual controller is said to adapt to the long and short presses that some games require.

One thing that's worth noting is that Sun Cun mentions that the local play support for Steam games is still experimental. So, there may be bugs and issues, but the good part is that the Redmi Product Manager assures that the team is actively working to resolve reported problems.
