Xiaomi: Two new Bluetooth speakers for the outdoors unveiled

Xiaomi is now among the most prominent electronics manufacturers and stands very much equal to other well-known companies in terms of the breadth of its product range, which clearly focuses on consumer electronics and products for end customers. To this end, Xiaomi has just introduced two Bluetooth speaker models.

The first model is an elongated speaker that promises powerful playback performance at up to 40 watts with a maximum volume of 93 dB. The speaker does not fire directionally, but instead provides 360° playback, which is useful for outdoor use and in larger groups. According to Xiaomi, the speaker is IP67 certified against dust and water damage, so rain is unlikely to pose an issue. 

The battery life is specified as lasting up to 17 hours. Using the speaker as a power bank to charge other devices is also said to be possible. Simultaneous connection with two smartphones is supported, and a stereo system can be set up with other Bluetooth speakers from Xiaomi. An NFC module is integrated, which is likely to make pairing easier. Various audio settings allow for easy configuration. 

The second model has significantly lower power and dimensions. The total output of the Bluetooth speaker is specified as 9 watts with a maximum volume of 90 dB. In terms of design, there are no fundamental differences to its bigger brother, as the output characteristics are identical and so should provide all-round sound. The maximum battery life is specified as 11 hours.

Both speakers come with an LED light strip that supports the display of RGB colors, and are currently only available on the Chinese domestic market. The larger model costs the equivalent of just under $80 and the mini version around $30. If, when and where the devices will get an international launch remains unclear.
