Reviews for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 2021
Two years after the introduction of the Redmi Note 8, Xiaomi brings a new version of its bestselling smartphone. However, the Note 8 2021 turns out to be a very modest model update with some technical adjustments that are at times questionable not only on its data sheet.

The original Redmi Note 8 from 2019 is one of the most successful models the company has ever put out, recently surpassing 25 million in total sales. However, the same formula that made it popular would no longer work as easily a couple of years later. Worse still, the Redmi Note 8 (2021) is arguably worse than its vanilla predecessor. The processor swap from a Snapdragon 665 to a MediaTek Helio G85 has resulted in the same performance numbers, plus an upgraded Bluetooth 5.2 radio, but 4K video capture is no longer available. Even Xiaomi itself already has better phones in the same price bracket, such as the Redmi Note 10 or the Redmi 10. It is absolutely possible that we might see a further decrease in the Redmi Note 8 2021's pricing or some aggressive carrier subsidies and that would help its desirability. That scenario, however, is the only one where we currently see ourselves recommending the Redmi Note 8 2021.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 (2021) can be a decent daily driver – it feels somehow compact when compared to other budget phones from its class like Redmi 9 or Redmi Note 9. The overall performance is just fine if you don’t use don’t plan to use it for super-heavy multitasking. In addition, the main camera is spot-on and the battery life isn’t bad at all. The problem is that this Xiaomi phone can be cannibalized by another sibling from the same brand – the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9. The latter offers similar hardware and camera configuration, but it boasts a bigger display, a bigger battery, and goodies like reverse charging for almost the same price tag. But it lacks the eye-candy glass back of the Redmi Note 8 (2021) and for some, the Redmi Note 9 can be a bit bigger for comfortable usage. So, as usual, the choice is in your hands.

If you’re still wondering, let me clear everything up in a recap so you can make an informed decision. No doubt the design has been an attractive point considering the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 (2021) phone. In addition, you will have a wonderful display that will leave you amazed while watching any movie. The presence of glossy cameras enhances the true charm of this phone in the budget range. Also, you should be concerned about the battery being unsuitable at the moment. Available globally, you can buy it from the official channel or from the nearest stores. There remains one more task, which is the comparison with its alternatives. This upgraded model offers stiff competition to other phones. So it would be difficult to find a strong competitor for the Redmi Note 8 (2021) phone. Still, you can check out the Galaxy M21 2021.

Only a few smartphones have larger screens.
Large display-sizes allow higher resolutions. So, details like letters are bigger. On the other hand, the power consumption is lower with small screen diagonals and the devices are smaller, more lightweight and cheaper.
