Reviews for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 5G
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 5G packs a lot of features into its light plastic case. On top of a 120 Hz AMOLED screen, there is the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC, a 48 MP camera with Samsung's ISOCELL JN1 as the image sensor, and a 5000 mAh battery with a 33 watt fast-charging power supply. However, the Android version raises questions.

The Redmi Note 12 5G provides good value for money, with a good camera setup, a vibrant display, a dependable battery, and fast charging support. While it shares similarities with its 4G counterpart, the Redmi Note 12 5G excels in performance, addressing concerns of the Redmi Note 12 4G. But just for the performance upgrade from the 4G to 5G model, there is a price difference of Rs. 5,000, which I find a bit large. Nevertheless, the Redmi Note 12 5G is one of the best phones you can buy under Rs. 30,000 in Nepal.

So, overall, the Redmi Note 12 5G is a great phone for its price of around 30,000 Nepali Rupees. Redmi has managed to offer competitive pricing compared to the Indian market, and the specifications of this phone are well-balanced. In the 30,000 Rupees price range, there aren’t many options for a 5G phone with good overall specs. For example, the Realme 9i 5G, available within the same price range, has mediocre specs, and Samsung’s Galaxy A14 5G is not as impressive. In such a scenario, the Note 12 5G stands out as a really good option.

In conclusion, the Redmi Note 12 isn’t a perfect device. Performance and software were a mixed bag, night photography isn’t great, and haptics left a lot to be desired. But while it has these shortcomings, the Note 12 is good — or even great — in arguably the most important aspects. It has an amazing 6.67-inch AMOLED display, a comfortable design, above-average cameras, and good battery life. It even has a 3.5mm headphone jack and an IR blaster! For a price of Php 8,599 for the 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage version (online exclusive); Php 9,999 for the 6GB and 128GB variant; and Php 10,999 for the 8GB and 128GB internal storage option — the Redmi Note 12 continues the Note line’s reputation of offering a solid package in this segment. Even without 5G connectivity, the Redmi Note 12 is still very much worth considering this 2023.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 5G’s battery performance placed in the upper part of our entire database. The Redmi Note 12 5G, equipped with an newer generation Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, outperformed its predecessor, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11, especially in autonomy and efficiency, even though the battery was the same. The Redmi Note 12 5G’s autonomy was solid, with the battery lasting most than 2.5 days when used moderately and with a power loss of an average 1% per night. The results when testing individual use cases, such as watching videos, streaming music or gaming, were also good. The device’s on-the-go autonomy was decent, but slightly below average when using the navigation app. The charging experiences were a bit mixed. The time to fully charge the battery was fast, taking 1 hour and 12 minutes, but the autonomy recovered after a quick 5-minute charge came in slightly below average. The device’s charge efficiency was decent, but the adapter’s efficiency was excellent, showing low residual power drained whether the fully-charged device was plugged in or not. The battery’s discharge currents were low in the majority of our use cases, especially when streaming videos or music and when calling on the go, meaning that the device is well-optimized. Although the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 5G did well against all the phones in our database, when it was compared to devices from the same Advanced price range ($200-$399), its results were slightly above average. Its excellent efficiency was offset by the average autonomy and charging experiences for this segment.

Just like its 4G sibling, the Redmi Note 12 5G is a solid all-rounder with little to complain about. It has a solid OLED panel, decent battery life, although we expected more, competitive fast charging, a dependable main camera and a dedicated microSD card slot. However, with a cheaper 4G version with roughly the same user experience on one end and some solid alternatives with the same price tag on the other, the Redmi Note 12 is in a tough spot this year. The exclusion of the stereo speakers from last year is a misstep as well the unimpressive battery life. Once the price goes down a little, the Note 12 may become more convincing. But for now, do consider some of the options we outlined above too.

While I’m not quite ready to deliver my final thoughts, my first impressions of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 5G are largely positive, with a great 120Hz AMOLED display and the same 5000mAh battery found in some flagships. Of course, performance isn’t that great with a Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, and despite a high-res 48MP camera, initial tests weren’t overwhelmingly positive. Still, at the budget end of the market sacrifices have to be made, and if display and battery life are the most important elements of a smartphone for you, you’ll struggle to find one better specced at a cheaper price.

At Rs. 17,999, it is hard to recommend Xiaomi's Redmi Note 12 5G unless all you want is reliable battery life. Xiaomi seems to have lost focus with its base Redmi Note model this year and goes about trying to check all the boxes, rather than focussing on quality. The cameras are probably the biggest disappointment as it often fails to get even the basics right, especially compared to other smartphones both at and below this price point. The Realme 10 Pro 5G, at an additional Rs. 1,000, packs in a better SoC, 108-megapixel primary camera and stereo speakers, along with an interesting design. Motorola's Moto G82 5G (Review) is also a better choice from Rs. 18,999 with an OIS-enabled primary camera, an IP52 rating, stereo speakers, and a near-stock serving of Android which is confirmed to receive its Android 13 update this year.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 is a solid option to consider if you are thinking to buy a phone under 20K. You get decent performance, a beautiful display and 5G connectivity. On top of that, the fresh design looks nice and the lightweight build makes it easier to use for a longer duration. The cameras are just fine and nothing spectacular, as expected at this price. However, I have to say that the battery backup is really good. But, is it the best deal out there? Well, I can’t say that upright. There are a lot of phones in this price range that might offer you something better at the cost of others. But Redmi Note 12 shines out like a good all-rounder at this price. You might want to add a couple of extra money and get the Pro model.

The Redmi Note 12 5G doesn’t come cheap. The base 4GB RAM + 128GB storage variant of the handset is selling in India at Rs 17,999, which is 25 percent higher than its predecessor Redmi Note 11. This puts the phone up against other contemporary smartphones such as OPPO A78 (review) and Realme 10 Pro 5G (review), which are priced at Rs 18,999 and run the latest OS Android 13 out of the box. Moreover, the Realme 10 Pro 5G has a better chipset and primary camera than the Redmi smartphone. All said and done, the Redmi Note 12 5G is as good a smartphone as it can get for the price. Barring a few shortcomings in low-light photography and software, there is little to complain about here. The handset delivers on almost every front, be it design, display, performance, or battery life. To further sweeten the deal, Redmi is offering Rs 1,500 cashback with an ICICI bank card and an extra Rs 1,000 off as an exchange bonus on old Redmi and Mi smartphones. If you club these offers, it will effectively bring the price of the Redmi Note 12 5G smartphone down to Rs 15,499.

The Redmi Note 12 has good performance, 5G connectivity, and a crisp display. There’s also 33W fast charging, which will charge the device in just over an hour. The only disappointing aspect was the camera, which is underwhelming. More so, given the starting price is higher now. For context, Redmi Note 11 launched at Rs 13,499 in 2021. I’m not including the cashback offers and exchange bonuses that the company is offering, which will bring down the price for many folks. Redmi states the effective price will be Rs 15,499 if you club all offers. Still, there’s no denying this is a more expensive Redmi Note, which could prove to be a challenge.

The Redmi Note 12 5G delivers on the value-for-money factor just like its predecessors, with the inclusion of 5G connectivity and a nice AMOLED display. While it is not the best performer in this segment, the efficiency of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 and the trust that Redmi’s Note series has built over the years is a good recipe for a successful product in the market, apart from the aggressive pricing from Xiaomi.

Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Note 12 5G with MIUI 13 based on Android 12, which is a disappointment. The company has promised to provide two major Android updates, which means that users will only get Android 13 and Android 14. Xiaomi has also promised to provide four years of security updates for the Redmi Note 12 5G. There is some bloatware in MIUI 13 but you can uninstall unwanted apps. The phone packs a 5000mAh battery and supports 33W fast charging. In case you are wondering, the phone does come with a charger in the box. With a starting price of Rs. 17,999, the Redmi Note 12 5G offers 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The variant we have has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage and is priced at Rs. 19,999. This new entry-level Redmi Note model is more expensive than many fans of the series might be expecting. Should you consider buying it? Find out in our full review, which will be up very soon on Gadgets 360.

The Redmi Note 12 has modest upgrades compared to its predecessor, but its price has significantly increased. The base variant of the Redmi Note 11 launched last February at a price of Rs 13,499, but the base variant of the Redmi Note 12 has been increased by Rs 4,500 (excluding introductory offers). With an introductory offer, the Redmi Note 12's base variant will cost Rs 16,499. While this price may seem expensive, the Redmi Note 12 does offer a 120Hz AMOLED display, 5G connectivity, and 33W fast charging, which remains unavailable on most phones in the segment. In that case, the Redmi Note 12 is a good choice if you are getting the smartphone with an introductory offer. At the original price, it is still a good device, but definitely overpriced. My suggestion would be that you wait till the company launches a more affordable Redmi Note 12 SE or 12 Lite, which shouldn't be far away. In the coming weeks, Motorola and iQOO may also launch some notable smartphones under the Rs 20,000 range. If you are desperate to upgrade, the Redmi Note 12 will not disappoint. If you still think it is overpriced, the Moto G82 5G is a great choice as the smartphone offers a clean Android experience.

The Redmi Note 12 is a combination of powerful specs and amazing features, which makes this phone value for money deal in the mid-range segment of phones. It got astounding processing power, smooth navigation support, a great gameplay experience, beautiful camera quality, better battery optimization, and more. Overall, if you’re looking for a phone in the budget segment, you should definitely pick this phone. But as we all know that there’s tough competition in the affordable range, and only the Xiaomi Redmi 11 Prime might be able to par this phone since Xiaomi brings an impeccable set of features. Finally, the decision is in your hands, so you can choose the best smartphone that fits your preferences.

So wrapping up this review, I feel like the Redmi Note 12 is a pretty great budget phone—one that will be a strong contender against other budget phones to come out in 2023. Obviously, there are areas where Xiaomi has made some sacrifices, such as the lack of an ultrawide sensor and stereo speakers. But budget phones always make compromises in one way or the other. And thankfully, the compromise is not on aspects like performance which would have ruined the overall smartphone experience. So if you can look past all this, I think the Redmi Note 12 still offers great value. The Redmi Note 12 is an excellent choice for those looking for a budget phone that does not cut corners on features or quality. From its reliable performance to its good AMOLED screen to its sleek design, it offers a smartphone experience comparable to a mid-range phone.
