Reviews for the Xiaomi Mix Flip
The Mix Flip brings a lot of what is currently possible with a compact foldable smartphone. Particularly the huge secondary display of the Xiaomi smartphone makes the Galaxy Flip 6 look a bit aged in comparison. But the rest of the equipment is also impressive for the first flip smartphone generation from Xiaomi.

For a first attempt, the Xiaomi Mix Flip is an excellent product. The software has a few shortcomings, but the hardware in the phone is commensurate with the price. At S$1,499, you’ll get a clamshell foldable phone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, fast LPDDR5X RAM, and UFS 4.0 storage. It also has a big 4,780mAh battery that supports 67W fast charging and large, bright inner and outer displays. If it had eSIM support, it would have been a fantastic flip phone for anyone who wants performance and form factor rolled into one device. Core to flip phones are the extra functionalities, and Xiaomi Mix Flip's outer display is more practical than many other competing devices.

The Mix Flip is a strong first showing from Xiaomi. The first flip phone from the brand, the first Leica flip phone and the first Xiaomi foldable to launch overseas, it gets a lot right. Fans of Leica's processing on Xiaomi phones will enjoy what the Mix Flip does with its modest camera hardware. The telephoto camera's macro performance is also great to see and handy, though we wish it zoomed further and had OIS to add real utility across lighting conditions. A lack of IPX8 water resistance, wireless charging and the limited app support on the cover screen hold the Xiaomi Mix Flip back from being a clear winner in the flip phone camp, but it definitely does something different and does it well.

The Mix Flip adheres to all of the common strengths and weakness that we've come to expect from the form factor, but ultimately delivers on display and performance, with great cameras for the category and good battery life. However, it's held back by misguided software choices and limited regional availability.

At S$1,499, the Xiaomi Mix Flip is slightly cheaper than the official price of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 (from S$1,648). However, you can now find the Samsung for around S$1,200, which makes choosing between the two a more difficult decision. If you're worried about the lack of water resistance or that the Mix Flip runs warmer, the Samsung would be the better option. But the Xiaomi does offer longer battery life, faster charging, and I also prefer its cameras. It could well boil down to whether you like Samsung's widgets or Xiaomi's full-screen apps on the outer screen. Get the Xiaomi at Shopee and Lazada.

The Xiaomi Mix Flip is the first attempt at a foldable of this style from the company, and it shows. It’s simply not as good as key rivals like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra. However, it’s not all doom and gloom for this first-gen flip – battery life and performance are real highlights.

I like the Xiaomi Mix Flip a lot, even if it doesn't take as much advantage of its foldable status as rival handsets do. If you consider the Mix Flip as a well-specced regular smartphone that happens to fold in half, you'll better appreciate its strengths. But there are strong foldable options out there. Even with the big outer screen, the way Xiaomi wants you to use the Mix Flip isn't well-optimized, and since flip foldables have a regular-sized inner display, you can't take advantage of tablet-style multitasking in the same way you could on a largeable foldable. But having access to a few key apps even with the phone shut and being able to use them with that excellent inner display, quick chipset and frugal battery life, means you can easily get the best out of the Mix Flip in more mundane ways.

The Xiaomi Mix Flip is one of the most premium flip-style phones out there, offering top-tier performance, a solid camera, and stunning displays. That puts it ahead of flip-style phones from companies like Motorola, which offer great devices to be sure, but sacrifice some things like performance. Of course, you’ll have to find the Xiaomi Mix Flip if you want one, which will be tricky if you live in North America.

I don’t think the Xiaomi Mix Flip is the very best clamshell phone around – but it does dominate the competition in a few key areas. Battery life and charging speeds are fantastic, the sensibly-shaped outer screen is a great shape for full-screen apps (if still a little cramped), and the cameras produce wonderfully atmospheric photos with very little effort. If those features are higher on your wish list than water resistance or a clean take on Android, this is a phone that deserves your attention – even if that means accepting a less than subtle crease on the inner screen. Xiaomi’s burgeoning app ecosystem and AI enhancements are a step behind Samsung’s, too – and the Mix Flip doesn’t have price on its side compared to the Z Flip6, now that discounts and contract deals have come into effect. It’s the outside choice, but one that’ll reward keen photographers in a way few flip phones can.

Would I recommend you buy the Xiaomi Mix Flip? Yes and no. In my opinion, the Xiaomi Mix Flip is more interesting and less expensive than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, its direct competitor. Its photo quality is better and its camera module is more versatile. It also has a slight edge in terms of battery life as well, not to mention a faster charging rate. The cover display is also much more functional than Samsung's. But the absence of an IP rating on such an expensive smartphone really bothered me. During my photo session in the rain, I was really stressed about subjecting the Xiaomi Mix Flip to the slightest drop of water. Overheating problems were also a serious flaw in my eyes.

The Xiaomi Mix Flip is a solid first effort in this flip phone category. It bests its direct rivals on charging speed and battery capacity. There are some issues to address in future generations, mind. The front screen feels awkward to unlock in general use, there’s no water or dust resistance, and the significant thermal throttling means the potential of the high-end processor goes to waste somewhat.

The Xiaomi Mix Flip is going global (Europe and Asia) and this is the best flip phone I’ve tested yet, with a cover screen that’s about as large as possible, a beautiful near crease-free main screen, and a camera system that captures some very tasteful Leica-inspired photos. The phone’s also running on the newest Qualcomm chip and has a comfortable in-hand feel.

Xiaomi is bringing two new mid-range phones to a global launch in the 14T and 14T Pro, along with its first folding phone in the Mix Flip at an event in Berlin. The company previously brought Leica’s lenses and features into the 13T series, making this a more incremental upgrade in comparison. A tighter relationship with Google, along with a focus on AI tools, is driving much of Xiaomi’s focus this time around. Both the 14T and 14T Pro will be available in various global markets — still not North America — forcing you to get an unlocked model from online retailers who ship to this side of the pond. While we don’t see a lot of its products here in the States, Xiaomi is the world’s third-largest smartphone maker with almost 15% of the global market. And while it’s become well known among hinge-heads for its large-format foldables (now on their fourth generation), the company hasn’t dipped its toe into flip phones … until now. From an American perspective, the Xiaomi Mix Flip has most of the shortcomings you’d expect from both a first-generation product and one built especially for the China market.

The Xiaomi Mix Flip provides a flagship-level experience with almost everything you could expect from it. The foldable phone is incredibly slim, even when it’s in a folded position. This provides a fantastic user experience that will surely elevate how you perceive foldable smartphones. The displays are flagship-level and will provide a solid experience. The same is true for the phone’s other components, such as design, chipset, camera, battery, and more. All in all, it’s a solid foldable smartphone that will not disappoint in daily day-to-day usage. However, there are a few compromises as well. Considering the specs and the experience it provides, the pricing is okay but could have been a lot better.

Unboxing the Xiaomi Mix Flip, with a hands-on review of this foldable phone's camera setup, gaming performance, battery life and beyond. The Xiaomi Mix Flip boasts some of the best specs of any compact fold smartphone in 2024. But is it good enough to convert sceptics and is it better vs Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 6 plus the Moto RAZR 50 Ultra? The hardware here is some of the most impressive from a mini foldable right now. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 means excellent gaming performance, while the Xiaomi Mix Flip's battery life is also among the best, beating the Z Flip 6. Likewise, this phone offers fast charging, although there's no support for wireless recharging.

Xiaomi is definitely on the right track with the Mix Flip. It has many features we wanted to see in a Galaxy Z Flip - a higher-resolution Dolby Vision screens, Leica-powered photography with better zoomed photos and closeups, better battery life, faster charging. All these features could easily seal the deal. The lack of ingress protection and the GPU overheating are the only things that we see as potential setbacks. And the limited availability, of course. While Xiaomi can improve its software to prevent overheating messages, it cannot add water resistance. Still, we found the Mix Flip a compelling offer, one we would seriously consider if we were shopping for a Flip phone. Despite everything, it is one of the best Flip phones on the market - the one with the best screens and cameras, at least.

Xiaomi MIX Flip offers a lot of surprises in terms of experience. It is not only light, thin, and compact, but also delivers flagship performance. Xiaomi has fully optimized it for the large external screen, improving the efficiency of using this screen. Combined with its excellent photo-taking capabilities, it performs exceptionally well in all areas. This flagship small folding phone comes at a very reasonable price. With a starting price of 5,999 yuan, the Xiaomi MIX Flip allows more users to experience the performance and functional advantages of a flagship small folding phone. If you are considering buying a small folding phone, I highly recommend the Xiaomi MIX Flip.

Xiaomi just took the wrapping off of the Mix Flip and Mix Fold 4. The two new foldables are full of innovation and every bit the true flagships, running on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. These are the company's slimmest and lightest foldables to date, with surprisingly powerful hardware on the inside, including big batteries and capable camera setups. Here are some quick specs rundowns for both devices to start off.

We didn’t spend a lot of time with the Xiaomi MIX Flip, but with the short time we did have we it, we walked away very impressed. It’s a shockingly well-built and well-thought-out device considering it’s the company’s first stab at a flip-style foldable, and the only hurdle for you, the customer from getting one is availability. It’s currently only for the Chinese market as of press time, but I’d be shocked if they don’t offer this internationally in the coming months.

Model:
The Xiaomi Mix Flip stands out in the crowded foldable market with its large displays and solid performance. Featuring a 4.01-inch outer screen and a 6.86-inch inner display, this flip foldable offers ample screen real estate, making it one of the more generous models in terms of size. The outer display is enhanced by curved edges, adding a touch of sophistication while improving usability when the device is closed. Meanwhile, the rounded square design of both halves makes the phone feel comfortable in hand, though the noticeable gap between the two halves when opened sets it apart from other foldables that try to minimize this gap. The Mix Flip’s construction is sleek and understated, typical of Xiaomi’s design ethos, with an option of black, white, or purple colorways. The camera module sports Leica branding, giving it a premium feel, though its overall look is subdued.
The device's build quality feels robust, and the hinge design, while functional, has some protruding protectors that can catch your fingers occasionally. Display quality on the Xiaomi Mix Flip is impressive, particularly when compared to its rivals like the Motorola Razr. The inner screen is bright and cooler-toned, with higher resolutions, making it more suitable for tasks like app usage and video consumption. The larger outer screen is another advantage, and while it’s useful for quick interactions, it could be more functional with better app integration. Xiaomi has attempted to leverage its cover display by adding a widget stack and a grid of apps, but this feels less intuitive than the cover screen on competitors like the Razr Plus.
For its camera setup, the Mix Flip is equipped with a 50MP main camera and a 50MP 2x zoom telephoto sensor, along with a 32MP selfie camera. While the camera performance is generally good, the Mix Flip excels in capturing bright, vivid shots, particularly in challenging lighting. In side-by-side tests with the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra, the Mix Flip’s images are often brighter and more true to life, though there are occasional trade-offs in detail and colour accuracy, particularly in zoomed shots. Under the hood, the Mix Flip is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, paired with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, which ensures smooth multitasking and robust performance for gaming and daily use. Benchmarks show it performs on par with the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Razr Plus, especially in GPU-heavy tasks like gaming.
The device also supports Wi-Fi 7, providing futureproofing for fast wireless connectivity. When it comes to battery life, the 4,780mAh battery in the Mix Flip is among the largest in the foldable category, and its 67W wired charging is incredibly fast. In our tests, it charged from 0 to 100% in just under an hour, outpacing most competitors. On a single charge, the Mix Flip provided over 3 hours of continuous YouTube playback at 50% brightness, with only an 18% battery drain, slightly better than the Razr Plus. In conclusion, the Xiaomi Mix Flip offers a large, functional display, premium performance, and impressive battery life, making it a strong contender in the foldable space. While its outer screen and overall user experience could use some refinement, it remains a well-rounded device for those seeking a foldable with top-tier specs and unique design elements.
