Xiaomi has now confirmed its release plans for the MIX Fold 3, its latest foldable smartphone. To recap, Xiaomi introduced the MIX Fold 3 earlier this week alongside the Pad 6 Max, Redmi K60 Ultra and the Smart Band 8 Pro. For now, Xiaomi is only selling these devices in China. For reference, Xiaomi is expected to offer the Smart Band 8 Pro globally and the Redmi K60 Ultra outside its home market as the Xiaomi 13T Pro.
Until now, Xiaomi has not commented on whether the MIX Fold 3 would also receive a global release. However, the company's CEO Lei Jun shared various details about the MIX Fold 3 on his global Twitter account, potentially giving the impression that the device would reach other markets. Incidentally, that applies to the CyberDog 2 as well, which we have covered separately.
Unfortunately, Xiaomi's Communications Director has detailed that the MIX Fold 3 'will be available exclusively in Mainland China'. Thus, Xiaomi has no plans to challenge the Galaxy Z Fold5 or Pixel Fold globally. Thankfully, there are ways of purchasing a MIX Fold 3 without visiting China. For example, TradingShenzhen is already selling the handset in three memory configurations, starting at US$1,642 with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Please note that the MIX Fold 3 will ship with a Chinese MIUI ROM that is not optimised for Google apps and services. Similarly, the MIX Fold 3 lacks LTE Band 20 support, which could cause issues with cellular networks in some countries.
