Xiaomi is thought to add a new "Pro Max" variant to its line of flagship Android smartphones for the first time in 2025. A new rumor just might offer a decent rationale for the supposed extra version of the 16 to exist, and to launch alongside the first of its siblings later this year. It might have a spec not even present in the top-end 16 Ultra model.

The Xiaomi 16 Pro is thought to stand out from its fellow early Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 adopters with an updated camera hump that supposedly improves on that of the iPhone 17 Pro with an inbuilt display

It is thought to blend in with its contemporaries in another important way, in that it, along with potential rivals such as the Honor Magic8 Pro, Oppo Find X9 Pro and Vivo X300 Pro, are all thought to launch as ~7,000mAh smartphones.

Xiaomi reportedly has another new battery ready to go, though, according to a new leak: one that goes up to 7,290mAh in capacity, which might be rounded up to ~7,500mAh when it comes to its marketing.

The larger power pack might be destined for the 16 Ultra - or would, if the typically reliable leaker Digital Chat Station had not predicted that next-gen mobile photography monsters of its caliber might have to be restricted to the 7,000mAh spec in order to fit all of their state-of-the-art camera hardware in.

Therefore, the "7,500mAh" battery might belong to another member of the 16 series...the alleged, inaugural "Pro Max" variant, perhaps.
