The Xiaomi 16 series will launch in China in a few months as Xiaomi's most premium smartphones for the year. Ahead of that, new leaks have now revealed some important details of the phones, a couple of which may excite fans.
For one, it appears the Xiaomi 16 series will have one model with a rear display. Information on this first surfaced last month, indicating that Xiaomi could be set to bring back the rear display from the Mi 11 Ultra. It's unknown which of the Xiaomi 16 models will come with that feature but word on the grapevine indicates it will be the phone with the model number "25098PN5AC". According to Xiaomi Time, this phone is codenamed "Pandora" and will be exclusive to the Chinese market.
While some rumors seemed to indicate Xiaomi could be abandoning its imaging deal with Leica, multiple reliable sources claim that will not be the case. As revealed by Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi has, in fact, renewed its partnership with Leica, which will see its future mainstream flagship phones sport both the Leica branding on their camera housings, as well as actual tuning from the German company.
A more contentious point, however, has been the existence of a mythical Xiaomi 16 Ultra Max. This device, said to be internally coded as "P1S" has been speculated to launch as the Xiaomi 16 Ultra Max. Kartikey Singh dissents, however, claiming that the Xiaomi 16 series will offer only four models as previously reported. It is more plausible, though, that "P1S" arrives as a different flagship-grade device from Xiaomi's stables. Perhaps, a Xiaomi 16S Ultra exclusive to China and featuring the company's second-gen XRing-O2 chipset? Or maybe the much-awaited Mix 5? Time will tell.
