October 08, 2025 03:10 PM GMT update:
Microsoft has confirmed in a statement to The Verge that subscribers in the US or UK will not be impacted by the Game Pass price hike. Kari Perez, head of Xbox communications, said, "Our recent Game Pass update remains unchanged. Current subscribers in certain countries will continue renewing at their existing price for now, in line with local requirements. We’ll provide advance notice before price adjustments take effect in these countries."
Original article continues as follows:
Microsoft came under fire once again after it increased the pricing for its Game Pass tiers from October 1, especially the Ultimate tier that saw a 50% price hike. However, it seems like these increased prices were not for everyone and subscribers in various regions are reporting getting emails from Microsoft stating that their monthly payments will remain the same, unless they cancel their subscription.
The information comes courtesy of Pure Xbox who compiled a list of Reddit posts from the XboxGamePass subreddit. A Polish Game Pass subscriber received an email from Microsoft stating that prices will remain the same in their region if they are on a recurring plan. If they decide to cancel and then repurchase a subscription, they will have to pay the increased price. The email also adds that if there were a price increase, the user would be informed about it 60 days in advance.
Several others responded to this post from different regions including Austria, Germany, Italy, India, South Korea, and others, stating that they received the same email.
On the other hand, users from Spain, UK, and France reported that they received a different email (via Resetera), one that informs them about the price increase to their current subscription. A Game Pass Ultimate subscriber from one of the European regions shared the email that clearly states the new pricing will be in effect from November 4. Notably, there was no 60 days advance notification for these regions.
Furthermore, a subscriber from Canada also received the same email informing them about the imminent price increase for their Game Pass Ultimate plan.
As it stands now, it appears that some regions will be affected by the price hike while others will not. Hopefully Microsoft will make things clear soon enough and list the regions that will have to pay more starting November 4. That being said, some retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, and Walmart will continue to offer the subscription at old pricing at least for a while.
