We recently reported on a teaser Wooting published on YouTube that seemed to suggest the gaming keyboard company was developing a new Hall-effect keyboard with split space bars. Now, Wooting has effectively announced a YouTube livestream planned for Friday, May 16, titled "Special Reveal Livestream." Wooting has not confirmed anything other than this, but the Discord announcement has dropped some hints as to what to expect from the announcement.
New Wooting Hall-effect keyboard incoming
The Discord livestream announcement reads as follows:
LEAK REVEAL
On May 16th at 1PM CEST Calder will be live on our YouTube channel to tell you all about it!
You can already bookmark or get a notification for the stream by going here: youtube.com/live/aMFUEk4apxMGrab your popcorn, get your drinks and be there for the big reveal!
The “Leak reveal,” and “You saw the teasers, you speculated; now it's time to see what it's all about,” in the Discord event card appear to be referring to the previous teasers that revealed the aforementioned split space bar keyboard layout.
Check out the full article for more details, but effectively, Wooting teased what looks like a 60% or 65% keyboard with a split space bar in a recent YouTube short. Other hints in the video suggested that the keyboard would also feature a new plate material often found on premium mechanical keyboards. Currently, most of the speculation — and Wooting's teaser itself — points to a new keyboard entirely, but it could just as easily be a new PCB and plate for the 60HE.
There are some who think the announcement will simply be a switch collaboration, but that seems unlikely, given how Wooting launched its Geon and TTC collaboration switches. Even the Optimum and Owlab case collaborations were announced with a simple video drop, not a livestream teased weeks and days in advance.
The announcement will take place the same week as Iqunix announces the EZ80 and Keychron launched the K8 HE, which is a TKL version of the Keychron K4 HE that we recently reviewed (curr. $144.99 on Amazon).
