Michał Kiciński, the new owner of GOG, has expressed surprise that Windows has remained the dominant platform for so long. As user frustration continues to grow, Linux is attracting increasing attention within the company. All signs point to improved Linux support in 2026 – a step many users have been calling for over the past several years.

Michał Kiciński, co-founder of CD Projekt and owner of the gaming platform GOG since 2025, has once again made headlines with outspoken views. After recently criticizing rival platform Steam, the Polish entrepreneur has now turned his attention to Windows. In an interview with PCGamer, he described Microsoft’s operating system as “bad software” and said it was “hard to believe” it has remained on the market for so long.

Kiciński is far from alone in his criticism. Windows has faced growing backlash in recent years, as users have become increasingly frustrated with forced AI features such as Copilot, ads in the Start menu, and the rising hardware requirements of Windows 11. These developments have pushed many users to explore alternatives like macOS or Linux. Michał Kiciński made the switch long ago and now uses macOS privately, though he still has to deal with Windows from time to time. As he puts it, he is constantly fixing his parents’ Windows PCs – a situation he describes as simply “unbelievable.”

The interview specifically addressed growing interest in Linux at GOG, fueled by ongoing criticism of Windows and the rising popularity of Valve’s Linux-based Steam Deck (currently priced at around $480 on Amazon). While GOG owner Michał Kiciński focused his remarks on Windows, Managing Director Maciej Gołębiewski offered a more direct response. “We could probably do more in this area – and that’s something we’ll be looking into,” he said, signaling a potential shift toward improved Linux support.

The outlook for improved Linux compatibility at GOG in 2026 appears promising. So far, GOG Galaxy has lacked a native Linux client, forcing Linux users to rely on third-party tools such as Heroic or Lutris. On Reddit, many users describe the potential shift as long overdue and largely support the criticism directed at Windows. That said, not everyone is without reservations. Some point out that Linux itself comes with challenges – ranging from compatibility issues to fragmentation across numerous distributions, which can pose a significant hurdle for newcomers.
