What many future PS5 owners really want is an improved web browser for accessing Pornhub

Affordability. Backwards compatibility. Exclusive games. Hardware-based ray-tracing technology. The best that AMD has to offer in terms of GPU and CPU microarchitecture. These are all attractive reasons to consider a future purchase of a PS5 console. But a new thread on Reddit has elaborated on an overlooked feature that many gamers will want Sony to improve: the web browser. Because when PlayStation owners aren’t gaming, many of them like to visit Pornhub or similar adult-themed sites.

According to a 2019 review released by Pornhub, PlayStation owners were the most frequent visitors to the site in terms of console traffic share. It seems 51.5% of Pornhub’s console traffic comes from PlayStation owners compared to 34.7% from Xbox users, and it appears the PlayStation 4’s web browser just really isn’t suited to the task. An improved browser on the PS5 will make many users happy, regardless of whether they just want to have a look through the pages of Reddit or settle in for an evening of something more adult-oriented.

Complaints about the web browser on older PlayStation consoles seem to focus on choppy performance when playing videos, the lack of a pop-up blocker, and overall sluggish speed. But even if future PS5 owners want to access sites like Pornhub using their console’s browser, it does seem unlikely that improving this particular software application will be a high priority for Sony, even if it is “time to play”.
