Updated | PlayStation 5 or goldfish bowl with surprising connectivity? "Leaked" design will keep expectant fans smiling until the real PS5 is unveiled
Update: Great renders of the spherical PS5 have been posted on NeoGAF. Take a look at them below the article.
There have been plenty of rumblings and gripes about Sony taking its sweet time to show the world what the PlayStation 5 is going to look like. In the meantime, we have enjoyed a handful of well-crafted renders based on PS5 devkits, rumors, and even supposed leaked images of the final product. A new “leaked” design that was recently shared on Reddit has offered up a radical new appearance for the upcoming next-gen console that looks like it may have enjoyed a previous life as a goldfish bowl.
The spherical PS5 (full image below), which has been likened to things such as the Okama Gamesphere from South Park, Star Wars’ BB-8, and a Death Star, looks different even if it is completely impractical. The “leaker” has even printed the design on paper with the PlayStation and SIE logos, but PS5 watchers have experience with people trying to hype up a fake nowadays. There’s also the fact that no-one would ever believe Sony would actually consider such an outlandish concept.
But there it is anyway – the spherical PS5 with its clearly hand-drawn ports, looking like a goldfish bowl that needs such connectivity for an external monitor and maybe some spherical controllers. Perhaps it’s legitimate and Sony has allowed such hubris to settle upon its business that a next-gen console shaped like a copper diving helmet would ensure nothing but huge global success. There’s still no official word on the reveal date for the PS5, but you can be pretty sure the final design won’t be spherical.
