Looking for porn? You can scratch Tumblr from the list
For a very long time, Tumblr had nothing against adult content, as long as there was no illegal activity — such as child pornography — involved as well. However, the recent child porn-related issues apparently made the Oath Inc.-owned microblogging and social networking website to change its guidelines and forbid all adult content, "including explicit content and nudity (with some exceptions)," so those looking for Tumblr XXX pages should move on and find that type of content on other websites.
The new policy will be enforced starting today and the targeted pages should disappear in the coming weeks. According to the official news piece regarding this topic, "Community members with content that is no longer permitted on Tumblr will get a heads up from us in advance and steps they can take to appeal or preserve their content outside the community if they so choose. All changes won’t happen overnight as something of this complexity takes time."
Since automated tools can often ban the wrong images — such as nude statues or paintings — Tumblr is also using human assessors. In the long run, these changes might turn Tumblr into a much better service for those who are not using it to provide and/or to consume porn, but many such users will be taking their endeavors somewhere else. Remains to see how many of the over 450 million Tumblr blogs currently online will disappear in the coming months.
