We reported last week that the GPU sales, at least in the German market, registered a 4th consecutive weekly drop in the 19th week of 2023 with only 2,775 total units sold vs the yearly high of 4,510 units. The situation became even worse in the 20th week if the newest report from 3DCenter which is based on the data collected by TechEpiphany is accurate.
According to 3DCenter, GPU sales for the 20th week recorded a yearly low with only 2,105 units sold. This is a whopping 53% decline vs the yearly high of the 15th week and a massive 39% regression vs the annual average of last year.
Furthermore, AMD and NVIDIA reversed roles in the past week when it came to percentage shares of the total volume, as GeForce GPUs accounted for 54.9% of the total cards sold while the Radeon GPUs were relegated to a 44.2% share. The Average Selling Price (ASP) difference of €233 between Radeon and GeForce boards was less than the 19th week, as Team Red’s GPUs had an ASP of €592 vs €825 for NVIDIA cards.
Interestingly, aside from the RTX 3060 which has a 12 GB SKU, the RX 6600 in the 8th place is the only GPU inside MindFactory’s top ten best-selling list with 8 GB of VRAM. Per a previous 3DCenter analysis, the RTX 3060 and the RX 6600 enjoyed the 5th and 6th spots among the best-selling cards in week 17. Since both boards have moved down the list, one can assume that customers are becoming increasingly wary of buying VRAM-limited cards. This could be a problem for the upcoming RTX 4060/Ti and the RX 7600 GPUs which also only have 8 GB of memory.
All we have to do now is wait and see if NVIDIA and AMD take the hint and move away from 8 GB boards.
