Deal | "War Tactics for Experts": This strategy game costs just $6 during Steam's Summer Sale

If you like keeping track of every unit in strategy games and do not shy away from detailed ammunition management, Steam's Summer Sale currently has a small gem on offer. Developed by Digitalmindsoft, Men of War: Assault Squad 2 was released in May 2014 and currently costs just $6 instead of $30. According to SteamDB, this matches the game's previous all-time low. The deal is not especially rare, however, as the same discount was last available in May.
In terms of content, Men of War: Assault Squad 2 takes players back to the battlefields of World War II. However, there is no classic story campaign here. Instead, the game focuses on individual skirmish missions in which battles are simulated in as much detail as possible. Soldiers, tanks, guns and vehicles can not only be commanded but also directly controlled if desired. The game also features destructible environments, physics-based projectiles and plenty of opportunities to use the battlefield to your advantage.

Players can pick up weapons, capture enemy vehicles and distribute equipment between soldiers. For many players, this level of detail is exactly what makes the game so appealing. Multiplayer matches for up to 16 players, co-op for up to eight players, an editor and Steam Workshop support also provide long-term replayability. On Steam Deck, Men of War: Assault Squad 2 is rated as "Playable."
In its review, German gaming magazine GameStar awarded the game 72 out of 100 points and described it as "war tactics for experts." The review particularly praised the enormous level of detail, realistic combat physics and great tactical freedom. At the same time, it makes clear that Men of War is anything but convenient to play. According to GameStar, the controls are clunky, the squad system can be annoying and inventory and ammunition management repeatedly slow down the flow of play. User reviews are significantly more favorable than some press opinions. On Steam, Men of War: Assault Squad 2 has around 46,400 reviews, with 91% positive ratings.
Anyone looking for an accessible strategy game for relaxed sessions is in the wrong place here. However, if you enjoy digging into complex real-time tactics, you get a good strategy game for $6.
