Rugged smartphone enthusiasts will likely be familiar with the brand Oukitel, known for their wide range of offerings in this segment. The brand has now announced yet another member of its family of rugged smartphones, dubbed the WP53 Pro. Priced rather affordably, the WP53 Pro packs a decent array of features.
As can be expected from a rugged smartphone, the Oukitel WP53 Pro boasts impressive durability and outdoor-oriented features. The WP53 Pro is IP68, IP69K, and MIL-STD-810H certified, which basically means that the rugged smartphone can easily bear up against water, dust, extreme temperatures, shock, vibration and 1.5-meter drops. Moreover, features such as a built-in camping light, massive 11,000 mAh battery, and a 3-watt loudspeaker that can hit a claimed 128 dB make the WP53 Pro ideal for adventure seekers.
At its core, the Oukitel WP53 Pro is powered by an unnamed 8-core SoC, which makes it very difficult for us to estimate its capabilities. More details should soon be available, which should make things clearer. We do know that the rugged device sports 8 GB of memory, and 256 GB of internal storage. Support for microSD expansion is present, which is always welcome. 18-watt wired charging is supported, and reverse charging capability is also present.
The WP53 Pro rugged smartphone also sports a 50 MP primary camera, while the details regarding the other two shooters remain unclear. The front camera is only 8 MP, which is passable, but unlikely to please selfie enthusiasts. A 6.52-inch FHD+ display is on offer, although Oukitel is yet to share any details regarding the panel. Considering the pricing, the panel is unlikely to be an OLED.
Pricing and Availability
The Oukitel WP53 Pro is priced at $229.99 as of this writing, which is an acceptable price for the features on offer. Our review of the WP35 (currently $259.99 on Amazon), also from Oukitel, reveals that the smartphone is pretty decent for outdoorsy folks who prioritize battery life, and the same can most likely be said for the WP53 Pro as well. All told, the smartphone, which can be ordered right now from Oukitel's official store, does appear to be a very decent rugged smartphone under $250.
