Volkswagen Tayron debuts in Europe as SUV with up to 200kW eHybrid versions
The Volkswagen Tayron has the same MQB evo platform as the Tiguan, yet has a longer (~4.8 meters) wheelbase as it can accommodate between 5 and 7 seats. Its interior is backed to deliver "best-in-class" comfort with 3-zone air conditioning, 10-colour ambient lighting and custom ArtVelours Eco microfiber upholstery.
The Tayron is also the latest premium SUV to have illuminated VW badges to the front and rear. It also comes with adaptive cruise control, Lane Assist, Park Assist and pedestrian- and cyclist-responsive braking assistance as standard, although IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights and App-Connect Wireless for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto are optional extras, as is the ChatGPT-based IDA voice assistant.
The car has been unleashed on the European market with a choice of 150 kilowatt (kW, or ~204 horsepower (HP)) or 200kW (272 HP) front wheel drive eHybrid models, both rated to get over 100km of range out of their 19.7 kWh batteries and to charge at up to 11kW or 50kW over AC or DC respectively.
Alternatively, the highest-end, 142kW (193 HP) 4MOTION TDI (diesel) variant is rated to tow up to 2,500 kilograms (2.5 tonnes) with a bracket and Trailer Assist.
However, Volkswagen is keeping those variants in reserve and has only released the Tayron as a mild (110kW) hybrid eTSI starting at €45,475 (~$49,800) thus far.
