Volkswagen drops spacious ID.7 Tourer electric station wagon photos, confirms 2024 EU launch — no US launch in sight ↺
While leaks and spy shots of the upcoming Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer electric station wagon have been rather prolific in the last few weeks, VW has remained mum on details about the electric station wagon — until now. Recently, Volkswagen shared images of the ID.7 Tourer, giving us a sneak peek at what to expect when the vehicle hits European streets in 2024.
VW shared but two images of the VW ID.7 Tourer in a rather strange forest-themed camouflage, but alongside the images, it also detailed some technical titbits about the upcoming electric vehicle. Firstly, VW confirmed that the ID.7 Tourer will have 545 litres (19.25 cubic feet) of boot space — around 113 litres (3.99 cubic feet) more than the 432 litres (15.26 cubic feet) in the standard ID.7.
What's perhaps more intriguing than the ample boot space is the aerodynamics, which play a significant role in the ever-present EV range anxiety discussion. While the standard ID.7 is said to have a drag coefficient of just 0.23, the ID.7 Tourer bumps that up to 0.24, meaning it is a little less efficient than the regular fastback SUV version.
This increased drag likely won't reduce range by much, but it will have an impact. Not that it will matter much, given the ID.7's rumoured 435-mile WLTP range figure. The small deltas in both boot space and drag coefficient are good signs for the future of the fastback SUV style, since it seems to strike a good balance between economy and spaciousness.
VW also confirmed that the ID.7 Tourer would be manufactured at its Emden plant in Germany and is slated for release in Europe in 2024. A North American launch for the ID.7 Tourer has not yet been announced, hinting that it may skip the US, like many station wagons already do.
