It's been known for a while now that the Volkswagen ID.7 would be accompanied by a station wagon variant when it finally hits the market. Recently, there has been a steady stream of images of the purported ID.7 Tourer out on testing trips in its home country of Germany. The latest ID.7 video, posted to Instagram, gives us a nice long look at the back of the ID.7. As many commenters also picked up on, the car's proportions make it look a lot more like a long crossover SUV than a traditional station wagon.
Previous sightings give us a clearer look at the rest of VW's upcoming electric station wagon, confirming that the ID.7 wagon does seem to have a rather tall roofline and high hood, giving it its SUV looks. It has been reported that the ID.7 Tourer will be launched under the Shooting Brake nameplate, meaning Volkswagen is going for a sportier coupé look than the traditional long station wagon aesthetic.
If the ID.7 Tourer comes with the same equipment as its sedan predecessor, it should land with a rear-wheel-drive drivetrain that produces 286 hp, and a battery pack that delivers between 382 (614.8 km) and 435 miles (700 km) of range. With the Tourer, these specifications will likely change, thanks to the modified form factor and increased weight. It's also likely that VW will introduce an AWD GTX variant of the Tourer, which would increase horsepower at the expense of range.
