Gogoro CrossOver debuts as electric "Two-Wheel SUV" boasting 90-mile+ range, all-terrain performance, and absurd practicality
While scooters and mopeds may not be all that glamorous, often lacking the style and performance of real motorcycles, there's something to be said for the degree of comfort, practicality, and ease-of-use that they provide. With the launch of the CrossOver, Gogoro seems to be gunning directly for that practicality factor and dialling it up to 11.
The Gogoro CrossOver is launching in two variants: the CrossOver and the CrossOver S, delivering a claimed 7.0 kW (9.4 hp) and 7.6 kW (10.2 hp), respectively — around the same or slightly better performance compared to an average 125 cc scooter. While the CrossOver's performance is nothing particularly special, with a top speeds of around 60 km/h (37.3 mph) to 70 km/h (43.5 mph), the versatility and thought that have gone into the rest of the package make it an intriguing e-scooter.
Gogoro claims it has reinforced and specifically designed the chassis and suspension for off-road use and practicality. Although the claimed 14.2 cm (5.59 inches) of ground clearance isn't all that much — only 11 mm more than the decidedly non-SUV 2023 Honda PCX125, despite being Gogoro's highest so far — it does claim a range of 150 km (93.2 miles) at a moderate 30 km/h (18.6 mph).
Alongside a capable drivetrain and battery combo, the Gogoro CrossOver features a very customisable luggage system that makes use of the steel frames that surround the rear portion of the scooter. Along with the tubular frames, the CrossOver features mounting hardware located atop the funky LED headlight and a small luggage rack under the removable split passenger seat. Altogether, this system grant riders a total of 26 attachment points to load cargo until they turn blue in the face.
