Honda reveals e-MTB concept with unusual frame
Honda unveiled an e-MTB concept electric bicycle at the Japan Mobility Show. The company says it has tried to combine the “fun” elements of a motorcycle and a mountain bike in the new vehicle. Indeed, the frame's design resembles that of a motorbike, with a chunky downtube, floating seat and hefty rear swingarm.
The Honda e-MTB concept’s frame is made of “thin aluminum”, but the estimated weight of the model is not provided. Though the brand has not officially announced further details, the model appears to be powered by the new SRAM Eagle engine, with the accompanying battery presumably stored in the downtube. The e-bike also uses a Fox Float X rear shock absorber and front suspension fork.
Other features include Ergon grips and saddle, Shimano brakes, DT Swiss XM 1700 wheels and Maxxis Minion DHR II tires for improved traction. It is unclear whether or when this Honda e-MTB concept could become a reality or how much it would cost. The Honda e-MTB concept was showcased as part of a range of electric vehicles at the Japan Mobility Show, which included the Honda Striemo 3-wheel scooter.
