BMW starts production of quirky CE 02 electric moped with up to 11 kW motor and 90 km of range in India
As part of the company's electrification efforts, BMW recently launched the compact, quirky CE 02, which lies somewhere between a full-size electric motorcycle and an electric moped — competing with the likes of the Honda Navi. More recent reports by ZigWheels indicate that the BMW CE 02 will be manufactured in India and shipped to international markets from there.
TVS Motor, the Indian company BMW has partnered with for the production of the CE 02, already makes the ICE-powered BMW G 310 GS lightweight adventure bike, so it makes sense for BMW to make use of the company's manufacturing expertise — especially if the target is high volume production. The BMW CE 02 looks to be a compelling little city run-around for those looking for an easily-manageable electric moped with practical range and reasonable performance capabilities.
The CE 02 is intended as a beginner-friendly electric motorcycle, with a seat height of just 750 mm and rider modes that accommodate new riders with gentler power delivery and longer range.
The CE 02 will be available with either a 4 kW (8 hp) or 11 kW (15 hp) motor, capable of 45 km/h top speed and around 45 km of range or 95 km/h and 90 km of range, respectively. BMW will also offer the CE 02 with two equipment options available, with the premium Highline package offering unique colour options and nifty trick that allows riders to use the 3.5-inch TFT display as a secondary screen for their smartphones.
The BMW CE 02 is expected to be available in 2024, with units shipping to international markets from the Indian production facility.
