Lexus has unveiled two electric car concepts at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show that offer a glimpse into the brand's future. The Lexus LF-ZC sedan hints at a series-produced, particularly aerodynamic e-car planned for 2026, while the LF-ZL represents the vision of an all-electric SUV flagship.

Lexus is showcasing its plans for becoming an all-electric premium brand in Japan. The concept vehicles unveiled at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show were the four-door Lexus LF-ZC, which focuses on aerodynamic performance, and the LF-ZL, an electric SUV flagship with massive dimensions.

Both all-electric concept vehicles from Lexus feature a fully digital, intelligent cockpit that provides intuitive and quick access to key controls in an immersive driving environment. The software, based on the new "Arene OS" operating system, enables successive updates. Multimedia, infotainment and safety can thus be continuously improved.

For the next generation of its electric cars, Lexus is aiming for greater unity between driver and vehicle to further enhance the driving experience. This includes, among other things, the "Direct4" all-wheel drive system developed specifically for the electric drive and the intuitive, linear feel of a steer-by-wire steering system. The further development of the "Arene OS" operating system is also intended to create an ideal balance between acceleration, cornering and deceleration.

The Lexus LF-ZC is a four-door electric sedan with a reported aerodynamic drag coefficient of less than 0.2. If Lexus can achieve this goal, then the Japanese would surpass aerodynamic leaders such as the Mercedes EQS (cd value of 0.20), Tesla Model S, Nio ET7 or Hyundai Ioniq 6 (0.21 each). The 4.75 meter long e-sedan also features a fully digital intelligent cockpit with two touchpads, which keep the most important controls within reach of the driver.

The Lexus LF-ZL, on the other hand, is an oversized electric SUV with a modular body that, at 5.30 meters long, surpasses other extremely large SUVs such as the BMW X7 (5.15 m), Mercedes GLS (5.21 m) or Range Rover 5 Gen (up to 5.25 m). The Lexus LF-ZL concept is a harbinger of the brand's future E-SUVs with particularly spacious interiors. The LF-ZL recognizes, learns and anticipates the driver's needs, offering a personalized driving experience and collaborating with digital data from the environment.
