Volkswagen had been hyping the electrification of its iconic Bus for some time, and has finally delivered on that promise in 2022. The resulting new take on the MEB platform is now part of the ID. range, and is touted as the most modern take on what distinguished the original multi-seater for so long.
They include the use of space within its relatively compact form, versatility (although this really extends to an additional Buzz Cargo variant thus far) and, of course, its rear-wheel drive. This VW bus, however, runs on a 150kWh motor that gives it an estimated 421km range in the non-Cargo version.
Now, Volkswagen claims to have attracted over 20,000 orders for the Buzz in Europe since May 2022. That seems like a coup for the first-gen e-microbus - however, its manufacturer had also mentioned plans to make no more than 15,000 of them in 2022.
Furthermore, estimates suggest that about 40% of this number could go directly to dealerships and possibly reviewers rather than to customers. Therefore, many early ID. Buzz adopters might not take delivery of their fancy new e-bus until 2023.
